“Innovation can manifest itself through many ways…and many formats. I think to the extent that we foster curricula that encourages critical inquiry, creative thinking, and an entrepreneurial spirit, I think that we add to the overall direction and soul of the city”. – Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals.
These words were spoken by Dr. Guy Generals, a personal friend, and someone I greatly admire. He joins us for our next installment of the Q2 Podcast. Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals is the newly appointed president of the Community College of Philadelphia. He shares his very inspiring educational experience and what he has learned on the way to becoming a President. In the second half of the interview, he shares his profound insights on educational pioneer Booker T. Washington, the subject of his latest book titled: “Booker T. Washington: The Architect of Progressive Education.” available here. This interview went a little over due to our deep dive into the incredible parallels between the nature of Booker T. Washington’s work and the new role entrepreneurialism is playing in higher education for both students and the faculty and staff who serve them. It was really fascinating learning the true role Washington played in education and how relevant it was for us today.I had a lot of fun in this one. I hope you enjoy it.
